Cape Nelson Lighthouse Tour...and Learning while we Travel...

What a Lovely day it was today...Loving Life, Loving my GORGEOUS Family, Loving GOD...

Today we started the day with the Rech Family classroom in our annex. We had so much fun and got a heap of work done. The girls did a huge project with heaps of information added, illustrations and cut outs about Portland and the surrounding areas.
We do both formal study/learning time and informal study/learning time. A combination of learning on the go, at the beach, on a cliff, on a picnic rug, in the car, the museum, the markets, grocery shopping, at the park, on excursions, etc... We also learn sitting down at a table and going through all our different curriculum, from text books and online.
We plan to cover many subjects including Maths, History, Christian Studies, English, Reading, Writing, Photography, Physical education, Social skills and more.
I think the girls really get the best of both worlds this way. The Girls are LOVING our version of schooling so VERY much, they are really thriving and I believe they will continue to thrive. I'm really in my aliment teaching our girls, we are LOVING it.

After our study/learning time, we went on a excursion to the Cape Nelson Lighthouse. We went on a 1 1/2 hour tour which was both fun and informative for all of us...

Check out our STUNNING Photos of Cape Nelson.....

Maritime Discovery Centre...

Yesterday we went to the Maritime Discovery Centre. We all really enjoyed it and hadn't realised the time went by so quickly, we actually spent 2 hours there. So the Portland Maritime discovery centre was the Rech family classroom for the day and the girls loved it, Serena was the last one out. The girls were highly interested in everything, reading the information, interacting with the displays and taking it all in. The girls took a heap of notes for our family project on Beautiful Portland!

Portland Comes Alive...

Yesterday Portland came alive!
Since arriving to Portland (we arrived late on new years eve) we haven't seen so many people in Portland and so much traffic in Portland. It was even difficult to get a car park. There was a BUZZ around the town, shops were packed, the carnival was even open during the day and some shops even had big sales on. We noticed the Portland market was going to be on, on the Portland foreshore which we wanted to go to. Quite a few locals and people in our neighbourhood (also known as Portland tourist park, Hehe) were chatting about the market and the P&O cruise ship arriving tomorrow (which was yesterday), we even noticed signs around town advertising the arrival of the P&O cruise ship, I think its a big thing here in Portland, Victoria.

So these are some pics of the excitement around Portland...We all had a great day joining in on the excitement, eating our picnic lunch on the lawn while listening to live music, quite a bit of it being Christian music. We enjoyed being amongst the locals and the many people off the P&O cruise ship and walking through the market stalls, it was a lot of fun. I really LOVE smallish towns, I LOVE the community feel, I LOVE how many people help each other out!
